This is the Zion Chapel A.M.E. church in Natchez. The church was built in 1858 and is across the street from where the Rhythm Club once stood. The Red Cross set up shop on the steps of the Zion Chapel to tend to those wounded in the fire. The church has a storied history to say the least. Pastor Hiram R. Revels, the pastor at the church, became the first African American to serve in either house of the U.S. Congress. He became the first African American Senator in U.S. history in 1870.
